Art This Week-The John Wilcox Space
Rick Brettell, Gabriel Ritter and David Wilcox in conversation

Voices on Art-Episode 35
Part 1: Discussion

Part 2: Questions

Filmed May 29, 2014 at The Wilcox Space
In late May, Dr. Rick Brettell, Gabriel Ritter and David Wilcox sat down to talk about the work of the Dallas artist, John Wilcox. Here, the three discuss the life and art of John. John died in 2011. Since then, his brother David has begun the process of researching and cataloging John’s work. David has turned the loft, where John lived, into a gallery space to show John’s work. You can find more information on the research and see many of John’s paintings at johnwilcoxart.com. This talk coincided with the exhibition, John Wilcox: Selected works 1980-83. In the late 70s and early 80s, John lived in several places, including California and Texas. This exhibition focuses on his work during his California years. In these videos, we hear David give a brief biography of John during this time, Gabriel discusses the art historical context of John’s work and Dr. Brettell moderates the discussion and gives some insight into the life of John. In addition, the audience consisted of friends of John.
A special thanks to David Wilcox, Dr. Rick Brettell, Gabriel Ritter, Pierrette Lacour and Barry Whistler. And thanks to David for letting me use photos of John and his work. All photos used are Copyright © 2013, The Ioannes Project.
