Voices on Art-Museum of Fine Arts, Houston-Opening Day Lecture “Kings and Queens: Royal Portraiture at the National Portrait Gallery, London”

On October 7, 2018, for our series Voices on Art, Art This Week Productions filmed this talk at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston by Dr. Charlotte Bolland, senior curator, research and 16th-century collections, National Portrait Gallery, London. She discusses the history of British royalty found in the exhibition, Tudors to Windsors: British Royal Portraits from Holbein to Warhol on view through January 27, 2018.

From the MFAH website–“Royal portraits have long held a special place in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery in London, founded in 1856. Some of the gallery’s earliest acquisitions were images of kings and queens. Today, visitors encounter images of every British monarch from Henry VII to Elizabeth II.

On opening day of the exhibition Tudors to Windsors: British Royal Portraits from Holbein to Warhol, this lecture shares fascinating facts about the National Portrait Gallery’s royal holdings. Highlights include a look at some of the most outstanding portraits ever produced; surprising conservation discoveries; and unexpected insights into royal domestic life.”

Thanks to Dr. Bolland, Dr. Bomford, and the MFAH for allowing us to film the talk. Thanks also to MFAH staff, especially Trey Ferguson, for their help in filming this talk.
