On September 30, 2016, Art This Week filmed “An Evening with Dorothy Hood: Panel Discussion with Susie Kalil and Friends of Dorothy Hood” at the Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi.
The panel included, moderator, Dr. William Otton, former Executive Director of the Art Museum of South Texas. Susie Kalil, author of and guest curator of the exhibition, The Color of Life/El Color del Ser: DOROTHY HOOD. Dr. Katie Robinson Edwards, curator of Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum in Austin, Texas. Lynn Randolph, artist and friend of Dorothy Hood. Dr. Carey Rote, Professor of Art History at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi.
The panel coincided with the opening of the exhibition, The Color of Life/El Color del Ser: DOROTHY HOOD on view at the museum from September 30, 2016 – January 8, 2017.
Part 1: Introduction

In Part 1, former Director of the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi, Dr. William Otton introduces the distinguished panel of scholars and friends of Dorothy Hood.

Part 2-Discussion

In Part 2, the panel discusses the life and art of Dorothy Hood. The dialogue is an excellent introduction to her and her work. Susie Kalil, author of the exhibition catalog, talks about her in depth and multi-year research into Hood, much of it based on the donation of Hood’s archive to the museum. Dr. Edwards and Dr. Rote discuss her work in the context of 20th century art. Lynn Randolph, one of Dorothy’s closest friends, talks about her relationship with Dorothy.

Part 3-Questions

In Part 3, the panel answers audience questions, including what comes next for the legacy of Dorothy Hood.
