Show Notes:
The Kimbell at 40: An Evolving Masterpiece
Happy 40th anniversary to the Kimbell Art Museum! For the past 40 years, the Kimbell has carried on Mr. Kay Kimbell’s desire “to encourage art in Fort Worth and Texas”. But little did he know that his collection would inspire art lovers across the nation and abroad. To celebrate this grand moment, the Kimbell takes us for a journey with the exhibition, The Kimbell at 40: An Evolving Masterpiece, in order to see how this world-renown institution began and how it continues to progress.
By assembling over 220 masterpieces from their own vaults, architectural models of both the Louis I. Kahn building and the new Renzo Piano building, and archival photographs, the Kimbell presents the largest permanent collection installation the museum has ever had. To best show off the magnitude of the Kimbell’s collection, The Kimbell at 40: An Evolving Masterpiece exhibition is not arranged in a conventional chronological ordering, but organized by the year in which pieces were acquired. This highlights the museum’s growth, diversity and strength.
Growing up in Dallas and attending Texas Christian University has allowed me to venture to the Kimbell frequently. It feels as though I have relationships with the museum and the beautiful art works that grace its walls. And even though I feel well versed with the Kimbell, I look forward to having my socks knocked off by the concentration of quality art compiled together for The Kimbell at 40: An Evolving Masterpiece.
The exhibition runs from October 7, 2012 to December 30, 2012. For more information about the exhibition and the museum, visit www.kimbellart.org
