Show Notes:
Nasher Sculpture Center Sightings: Eva Rothschild
Pipes, colors and mayhem…. Oh my! London based artist Eva Rothschild has taken over the Nasher Sculpture with her new instillation Why Don’t You (Dallas) for the Nasher’s ongoing series Sightings. This intricate instillation actively converses with the architecture as it traces though, along, and on the floors, walls, and furniture of the entry bay and the lower level.
Rothschild actively engages museum-goers to familiarize themselves with her three dimensional line drawing and the sculpture center itself. The painted pipes alternate between color stripes and black stripes. Towards the front of the museum, the pipes are painted with cooler colors, and as it moves back towards the garden, the colors become warmer. The color patterning heightens the fluidity and movement of this mammoth structure.
This architectural intervention is fun, fresh, and definitely worth your while. It’s refreshing seeing a museum have so much fun with an instillation. If you were able to participate with and see the Ernesto Neto instillation earlier this year, you will have a similar fun and engaging experience that makes you challenge the traditional academic definition of sculpture.
Go check it out for yourself. I promise, you’ll be glad you did. Sightings: Eva Rothschild will be on display at the Nasher Sculpture Center from October 20, 2012 to January 20, 2013.
